Busting hammer myth is not a myth?
A "square head" tinners hammer will indeed shatter. The hardened surface combined with the square face induces tremendous stresses at the corners of the hammer head. I have my fathers 1937 christmas gift of 2 matched hammers to prove it. The square head is chipped on one corner because a family friend banged the hammers together.
