Boot Problem? Please Help?
Hi. I have a problem with my computer not working.

EVGA X58 SLI LE
OCZ Gold Tri Channel 6GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
One day I tried turning it on, and it would not boot past the BIOS. It would just get to the screen which lets you choose "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally". I have tried installing Ubuntu, but the screen also just stays black. Whichever I click it just restarts or the screen stays black. I have tried resetting the CMOS, and re-inserting the processor. There are light on on the mobo. I have tested the memory using the program off the ubuntu boot disk. Before the problem started I noticed that every time the computer started the computer had a single, short beep and the screen said "frequency set for DDR3 1066" - does that mean I have a defective stick of RAM? Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance!
Remove and re-seat all the memory modules, check all connections to the hard drive (both ends)
Next time you boot use the Start Up Repair option, presumably when you have done this it either finds errors and cant fix them or finds none but either way it will not boot properly.
select the Command Prompt option and type
chkdsk /r (note the space before /) and press enter to check the Hard drive for errors.
It may take several hours to complete, do not stop it. It will give you a summary at the end and hopefully it will have found any errors present and fixed them. If you get any bad sectors listed this is not good and your Hard Drive may be damaged.
I assume from your question you get a BIOS display and can get into it? Remove and re-seat the VGA anyway, your board is SLi capable, if using it remove one VGA and boot using just the one card, if still the same swap cards to rule out a VGA card failure.
Check the manual for your mainboard to see if your memory speed of 1600MHz is actually supported. You can probably manually set the DDR3 frequency to 1600 assuming the board supports it (most do, and many will over clock to 2000MHz). The resetting to 1066MHz suggests a BIOS issue, possibly from a defective memory module where the frequency fluctuates because of an error, the BIOS will sense that fluctuation and limit the frequency to avoid a memory buffer issue at the higher frequency.
If all checks out with the RAM and VGA and HD cables, then try the default settings in the BIOS, if it boots then you have made a change that conflicts with one of the components, possibly memory timings. Check on the OCZ website for the correct timing settings or let the MoBo run it by SPD if you had it manually set.
How did you test the memory? Is this a single 6Gb module or 3x 2Gb? Individually test each module if not a single module to be sure that the other two are not compensating for a dodgy module and the test program does not stress it far enough to reproduce an error.
